I fucking hugged her tight because I fucking loved her. My entire purpose of never needing love or any of that bullshit flowing through my heart was because I knew that there would come a day when I’d be done. It’d be all over. Maybe I’d drop my motorcycle and get killed. Maybe a stray bullet would eat up my brain. Maybe it would be complete fucking torture like Jagg had to endure. But no matter what I was going to go with honor, respect, a dark ride, and nothing else. No grieving. No tears. Nothing left behind but my legacy and vision for Devil Call MC.

Now I had so much more to lose. I had everything to lose. And it fucking terrified me. Goddammit, it really terrified me.

So I hugged Everly tight. I closed my eyes. I pictured us somewhere else. I didn’t know what the hell that meant because all I knew was the MC. The clubhouse was home. The patched in guys were family. It was all I ever had up until Everly came into my life.

I pictured her on the back of Layne’s ride and that moment our eyes first met. I knew she wanted to fuck me. I knew I wanted to fuck her. The connection was instant fire and hasn’t gone anywhere since.

“Talon,” Layne’s voice cut into my little moment.

I let Everly go and turned around. “It’s done. What I set up. Too late, man.”

“Christ,” Layne said. “Jony is dead.”

“What’s that?” Buzzy asked.

“Jony is dead,” Layne said. “We set him up. Talon worked it out. He’s gone. Rilen Lost is no longer a threat… or they’re not supposed to be a threat.”

“Holy shit,” Drave said. “Why doesn’t this feel good right now?”

“Vaughn stopped me on the way back,” I said. “He’s… it’s going to get worse. He doesn’t trust us at all. He thinks we have Jade. And he’s not going to stop.”

“Jesus Christ,” Buzzy said. “Then we start fighting back harder. We…”

Layne turned and made a fist. Before I could picture it happening, Layne cracked Buzzy in the mouth. I saw a tooth go in the air a second before Buzzy did. Drave sort of caught him but then let him go and Buzzy went down to his ass. He looked up at Layne, mouth full of blood.

“About time,” Buzzy grumbled and spit blood on the ground.

“We will figure this out,” Layne said. “Myself and Talon. Everyone else go the fuck inside and wait for orders.”

It took a few seconds for the scene to clear itself out.

“Layne, he’s going to attack us,” I said.

“I know that,” Layne said. “Maybe it’s time we negotiate and just take matters into our own hands.”

“Isn’t that what Buzzy just said and got smacked in the mouth for?”

Layne grinned. “I’ve been waiting to hit the old son of a bitch for years. The first time I ever met him, he spit in my face. Called me a pussy prick prospect and then fucked the woman I was trying to hook up with that night.
